Class Descriptions

(Entering Grades 5-9; Intermediate/Advanced Level)

Jazz Ensemble 

For those students with at least 1 year playing experience who wish to learn jazz rhythms and improvisation. 

All students must be able to play at least one octave and four major scales on their instrument. Clarinet players should know upper register.

Intermediate Band 

For elementary school students with 1-2 years of playing experience

Concert Band 

For students with 1 year of playing experience (entering 7th ). 

Clarinet players must know upper register. Trumpet players must play above C in the staff. All should know most major scales.

Symphonic Band 

For students with 2+ years playing experience (8th - 9th school students).

Beginning Guitar

For students of any age wishing to learn guitar. 

A limited number of guitars are available for loan during camp on a first come, first served basis. No experience necessary. 

Choir

Singing is a great way to improve your overall musicianship, ear-training, pitch recognition and other great ensemble skills. 

Open to any students who like to sing!

Songwriting I and Advanced Songwriting  II

Learn the building blocks of music using chords and melody to write your own compositions using a computer program.

Advanced songwriting is for previous songwriting students.

USD Chromebooks are provided. Students are welcome to use their own laptops.

Percussion Ensembles 

A rhythm class designed to build skills using a variety of percussion instruments, including mallets. 

Classes will be broken into smaller groups based on age and ability.
